LED modules and LED bulbs are mercury-free, but contain electronic components.
They are therefore subject to the provisions of the Electrical and Electronic
Equipment Act (WEEE). LEDs are not allowed to be disposed of with normal residual waste. They must be disposed of
seperately.
LEDs are to be treated like energy-saving lamps and can be handed in free of charge at appropriate collection points. According to the ElektroG,
manufacturers and importers are responsible for taking them back for recycling.
The german lamp industry has founded Lightcycle Retourlogistik und Service GmbH for this purpose. It organizes the nationwide
take-back. Lamps are also picked up directly from large industrial cunsumers. You can find more information about collection points in your area
on the Lightcycle website..
